About this tour

This 5-day Georgia tour from Tbilisi combines the capital, ancient historical sites, the Greater Caucasus Mountains, and Georgia’s best-known wine region in one private journey.

The itinerary is designed for travelers who want to see several very different parts of the country within 5 days in Georgia. Along with Tbilisi, Kazbegi, and Kakheti, this route adds Uplistsikhe, Gori, Jvari Monastery, and Mtskheta, giving the trip a stronger focus on Georgian history and cultural heritage.

Your first sightseeing day is dedicated to Tbilisi. Explore the Old Town on foot, visit historic churches, see the sulfur-bath district, and take the cable car toward Narikala for elevated views over the city.

On the second day, the 5-day Georgia tour takes you west of Tbilisi to Uplistsikhe, an ancient cave town carved into rock, and Gori, where you can visit the Stalin Museum. The route then continues to Jvari Monastery and Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia and home to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.

Day three is devoted to the Caucasus Mountains. Travel along the Georgian Military Highway through Zhinvali, Ananuri, and Gudauri before reaching Stepantsminda, commonly known as Kazbegi. From here, continue by 4WD vehicle to Gergeti Trinity Church.

The fourth sightseeing day introduces you to Kakheti, Georgia’s principal wine-producing region. Visit a traditional bakery in Badiauri, Bodbe Monastery, Sighnaghi, a local family winery, and KTW Winery, with several Georgian wine tastings included.

For travelers comparing private Georgia tours from Tbilisi, this itinerary offers a broader historical route than shorter programs while still combining mountains, wine, culture, and private transport. Accommodation remains flexible, allowing you to choose your preferred hotel independently.

Because this 5-day Georgia tour is private, transportation and guiding are arranged for your party rather than a shared group departure.

Itinerary

After arriving at Tbilisi International Airport, your private driver will transfer you to your hotel. You will have time to check in and rest before beginning the first sightseeing part of your 5-day Georgia tour.

The Tbilisi walking tour begins in the historic center, where many of the capital’s most important landmarks are located within walking distance of one another.

Start near Metekhi Church and learn about the history and legends connected with the foundation of Tbilisi. Continue toward Europe Square and Rike Park before seeing the modern Bridge of Peace.

The route continues through the older neighborhoods of the city, including Anchiskhati Basilica, Sioni Cathedral, the Patriarchate of Georgia, Jan Shardeni Street, and the Tamada, or Toastmaster, statue.

You will also see the distinctive Clock Tower and discover how medieval churches, traditional houses, Soviet-era traces, and contemporary architecture coexist within the historic center.

Take the cable car toward the Narikala area for panoramic views across Old Tbilisi. Visit the Mother of Georgia monument before continuing toward the Juma Mosque and Abanotubani, the city’s historic sulfur-bath district.

The walking route continues toward the Bridge of Love and Leghvtakhevi Waterfall, hidden in a narrow gorge behind the sulfur baths.

After the excursion, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Meeting time: 08:30
Approximate end time: 18:30

Day two of the 5-day Georgia tour focuses on some of the country’s most important historical and cultural sites.

Your first major stop is Uplistsikhe Cave Town, an ancient settlement carved into a rocky plateau. Walking through its passages, chambers, and open spaces gives you a very different perspective on Georgia’s long history.

After visiting Uplistsikhe, continue to Gori. There will be time for lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Stalin Museum or exploring the city independently.

The journey then continues toward Jvari Monastery, located on a hill overlooking the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. From here, you can see Mtskheta and the surrounding valley below.

Continue to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia and one of the country’s most important religious centers.

Here, visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of Georgia’s major medieval religious monuments and a central landmark of historic Mtskheta.

After exploring Mtskheta, return to Tbilisi and transfer to your hotel.

Meeting time: 08:30
Approximate end time: 20:30

Day three is a full-day Kazbegi tour from Tbilisi, following the Georgian Military Highway north toward the Greater Caucasus.

The first stop is Zhinvali Reservoir, surrounded by green hills and mountains and known for its distinctive turquoise water.

Continue to Ananuri Fortress, a historic fortified complex overlooking the reservoir. Your guide will introduce you to the history of the site and its strategic position along this centuries-old mountain route.

From Ananuri, continue toward Gudauri, with time for lunch along the way.

At the Gudauri Panorama, stop for expansive views across the surrounding valleys and Caucasus Mountains.

The route then continues to Stepantsminda, commonly known as Kazbegi. Here, transfer to a 4WD vehicle for the mountain road to Gergeti Trinity Church.

The church stands at approximately 2,170 meters above sea level and has become one of Georgia’s most recognizable mountain landmarks. In clear weather, the location offers wide views across Stepantsminda and the surrounding Greater Caucasus landscape.

After visiting Gergeti Trinity Church, return to Stepantsminda and drive back to Tbilisi. The Kazbegi route is one of the major mountain experiences included in this 5-day Georgia tour.

Meeting time: 08:30
Approximate end time: 18:30

Day four of the 5-day Georgia tour is dedicated to Kakheti, the country’s principal wine-producing region.

The first stop is in Badiauri, where you will visit a traditional Georgian bakery. See how Georgian bread is prepared and baked, and taste freshly baked bread with local cheese.

Continue to Bodbe Monastery, closely associated with St. Nino, the fourth-century figure traditionally credited with bringing Christianity to Georgia. Her burial place is located within the monastery complex.

From Bodbe, travel to Sighnaghi, a compact historic town overlooking the Alazani Valley.

Walk through the old streets, see sections of the historic defensive wall, and enjoy views toward the Greater Caucasus. Sighnaghi is commonly known as Georgia’s “City of Love”, partly because of its association with weddings and its 24-hour civil wedding service.

Wine tasting is an important part of the day. Visit a local family winery, learn more about Georgian winemaking traditions, and taste three wines.

The route then continues to KTW Winery, where five additional wine tastings are included.

Visiting both a family-run cellar and a larger winery provides two different perspectives on Georgian wine culture and production.

After completing the Kakheti wine tour from Tbilisi, return to your hotel in the capital.

On the final day of your 5-day Georgia tour, your private driver will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to Tbilisi International Airport according to your flight schedule.

The journey concludes after exploring Tbilisi, Uplistsikhe, Gori, Mtskheta, Kazbegi, and Kakheti — a route that combines ancient history, religious heritage, Caucasus landscapes, traditional food, and Georgian wine.
