Since we were in Georgia, it seemed like it would be a shame to miss visiting Armenia since it is so close by. Given the good reviews with Gamarjoba, we decided to book with them.

They were excellent communicators throughout from contacting us on the day of booking, to checking in with us the day before to emailing whilst we were out for the day to check everything was going okay.

Our tour guide was Beka and with him was a trainee tour guide Giorgi (possibly have spelt that one wrong) who was very funny and I’m sure will give an equally good guide. Beka was extremely knowledgeable, not just about the sites we were visiting but also about Georgian history, Soviet history and he is clearly a curious and interested person because he knows a lot about many things. Which means he is a good conversationalist in the car. He also is a very rational person and so you don’t just get the legends behind things, you also get what actually happened. During our trip he was also extremely solicitous- checking we were comfortable, that we weren’t too hot or cold, that we were happy with the speed the driver was driving (the roads in Armenia aren’t as good as Georgia so with a fast driver you might get travel sick, so he was making sure we were not) etc.

The sites were stunning and much less full than attractions like that would be in any other country. We were the only people in the Akhtala church with all the beautiful frescos, and at the other two sites we were only among a handful of other tourists there. Armenia is also a very beautiful country- you get so many stunning views on the drive and they made sure we could stop for photos. We also made some little stops at a 13th century bridge and to see a MiG 21- which is a great stop even if you aren’t interested in planes because it has a beautiful view.

We also had a really nice lunch in a restaurant by the river there, which was very good value. The border crossing was very easy for us- we left at 8.30am from our airbnb, where they picked us up, and it was worth it to go a little bit early because we just beat some huge tour buses we would have otherwise been stuck behind to cross the border. It was very easy crossing over in both directions and they helped us change the small amount of money we needed once we were over the border for lunch (lunch for three people with drinks was only the equivalent of about 13 US dollars).

I haven’t finished our holiday in Georgia yet, so I don’t know if it will be the highlight of the trip yet but it will certainly be up there in one of our best experiences. It is really worth taking a day and seeing a different country- Armenia is very different to Georgia and you shouldn’t miss out on this experience!

It was an amazing experience for me to go to Armenia. Everything was perfectly organised.the driver was very generous and the car was very comfortable.specially our tour guide Giorgi was very friendly and had been a great leader to our team. Hi was very fluent in English and had a wide knowledge of in every way about the Georgia and Armenia. I am extremely happy that I was able to travel with a such guide to know many things that I haven’t ever heard of. This tour is a must if you are visiting Georgia

After hiking tour and discovering Tbilisi we booked a spontaneous tour to Armenia. Baya, our tour manager, get in touch with us very fast and organized everything very professionally. She was always available for any kind of questions and super friendly. She sent us a very carefully driver, who could handle the difficult streets in Armenia very well and also our tour guide Giorgi.
This young fella was really fun and could us give professional informations about the monastery without getting boring. If u want to get a first impression of Armenia and be interested in monastery I can highly recommend.

This was a fabulous tour. Giorgi was very professional at all times, has an extremely good knowledge of the history and was also very funny. We did everything that was on the itinerary for the day. I was concerned because I required a day visa and did not have it. With Giorgi’s assistance at border control it was resolved in no time and we proceeded. This is an experience not to be missed.
I also recommend Gamarjoba. All the tour guides(Guga, Giorgi-Tbilisi evening tour, George- Khakheti wine tour and Giorgi- Armenia, as well as Baya, Lana, Nicholas were all very professional super friendly. Thank you Gamarjoba for making my Georgia/Armenia a great memory??

    What a wonderful day!!
It was my second trip with this company and they were all very friendly and helpful and everything did work out just fine.

For the trip to Armenia we were only a party of two plus Giorgi our fantastic tour guide and our friendly driver Giorgi (yes, a famous name along the georgians…:) i did feel safe and well looked after all the time… our car was very comfortable …the roads in Armenia are in a poor condition…

Giorgi our tour guide is a very smart guy and a very knowledgeable person and it was a pleasure and much fun talking to him. The senery and the places we did visit were stunning.

I m very glad and grateful that I did do this tour and did take the chance to visit Armenia for a day.Thank you so much!!

I went on the one day Armenia trip in September and did like it a lot. In fact, I made several trips with Gamarjoba Georgia Tours and this one was my favourite. One of the main reason of course was George, our guide. Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

Spent an absolutely wonderful day in Armenia with historical sights, beautiful nature, great food and entertaining insights into history, people and politics from our guide Beka (aka Belarus).

Our tour to Armenia was amazingly beautiful. It won’t be possible without our friendly tour guide Tornike and our driver, a real georgian gentlemen. Tornike was very helpful and assisted us in so many ways, from picking us up to detailed historical events and showing us good places and spots, plus his jokes! We ate a local armenian cuisine and it was delicious. It was really fun with the group. I highly recommend this tour! Godbless guys!

Great tour to Armenia with our very nice, funny and knowledgable guide, George. Very informative and interesting tour, well paced and never too long a stretch of driving – max is a bit more than an hour to and from the border. We were talking most of the way anyway so it was never boring. The driver was also great especially navigating the 4km (And growing) stretch of poor road. Even better we were the only 2 on the tour so the car was comfortable (it would be with 2 more still anyway) and we were on our own time – which meant we were actually back in Tbilisi where they happily dropped us at our choice of Freedom Sq well before 18:30, which was a pleasant surprise. Lunch was tasty as well!

The tour was amazing! Our guide George was very informative, his extensive knowledge of history was incredibly impressive. He answered all of my 82794 tricky questions in a heartbeat. I even got interested in churched and cemeteries! 😀 It is your must-go if you are in Georgia. We had a great time and great timing – thanks George 🙂

Our first time to travel via tours (Gamarjoba Georgia Tours) and it did not disappoint. They picked us up at our Airbnb and greeted us enthusiastically.

Giorgi, our travel guide, was the main reason we enjoyed the trip! He ensured that we were comfortable while traveling. From the start to the end of our trip, he continuously entertained and informed us about the history of both Georgia and Armenia.

After providing information about every monastery we visited, we were given plenty of free time to walk around and take photos. We had lunch at a restaurant beside a river with good tasting food.

Our transportation was also very clean and comfortable. The road conditions in Armenia are poor, but the driver (also named Giorgi) was very professional and made it as smooth of a ride as he can.

Thank you to both Giorgi for their service and kindness. This tour is an experience we highly recommend!

Being in Georgia, it made sense to hop over the border and see a bit of Armenia as well. The tour was fascinating, seeing the stark differences between the two countries – both over history and today. The guide Tornike was enthusiastic and friendly, always willing to answer questions about both Armenia and Georgia, and was able to point out all sorts of details on the roadside. And to top it off, the border crossing was quick and easy for us as everyone on the tour had visa free entry. If you are questioning whether or not to take this tour when in Georgia, just do it, you won’t regret it!

The trip was fantastic, the guide was very informative, very friendly and spoke good English. The driver was a competent driver, and friendly. We had traditional Armenian lambstew, with freshly baked Armenian bread for lunch. Nothing negative at all with the trip, highly recommended for people who want to see northern Armenia.

The road to Armenia is an old highway but the views along the mountains are simply a must watch specially at sunrise. We visited a few churches and important landmarks around Yerevan city. The lunch was traditional Armenian. Once the sun began to set we made our way driving back to Tbilisi. Though Yerevan is about 4-5hours away, if you have time you can try it as we had a good guide from Smart Travel Georgia who looked after us very well during the road trip.

This was a great way to experience Armenia while in Tbilisi. The tour guide, Tornike, was well informed in Armenian history and took the time to answer all of our questions. It was a small tour of 4 people; the tour never felt rushed or too slow. I am rating the tour and the tour guide 5 stars, but I would advise anyone considering this tour to book it through the tour group directly instead of through TA or another 3rd party vendor. I paid 2x more for the tour booking through TA than my fellow tour customers who booked through the tour group. I understand a small markup for convenience but this markup was a bit extreme.

Thank you for this fantastic tour to Armenia. The driver was very friendly. Food was amazing and we will not hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone. Our guide Georg certainly offered us loads of cultural experiences to share with our family and friends. His enthusiasm, good sense of humor and his captivating style was indeed one of the peak elements of our trip

We highly recommend this day tour from Georgia to the Akhtala fortified church and the UNESCO-listed medieval monasteries of Sanahin and Haghpat.
Our guide, Tornike, ensured that our expectations were met and surpassed. He’s knowledgeable in history of the area, relations between countries, and details of each site. His friendly personality put us at ease and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. Our driver did a great job navigating the city traffic and rural roads. Lunch at a relaxing riverside restaurant was delicious. We are confident you would not regret choosing this day trip. Two thumbs up from the American couple! Norman Ebel

I had wanted to visit Armenia during my stay in Georgia but didn’t have the time for a night train to Yerevan. So, I picked this tour and I’m so glad I did. Our guide George was incredible–he is very knowledgeable about both countries and was able to answer essentially all of our questions, and he was very personable as well.

The tour took us to several churches in northern Armenia and a couple other sites too. Our guide explained the differences between the churches we saw and gave excellent context that would have been impossible without a guide. He also prepared us for the process of crossing the border and it went very smoothly as a result.

On top of this, communication with Gamarjoba Georgia was excellent. As soon as I booked Lana from the office contacted me to give me pickup information and answer my questions.

This tour is a great value and all the folks from Gamarjoba Georgia I spoke with were awesome, don’t hesitate to book! Also don’t forget to tip your guide and driver. Thanks again!

We had a wonderful time on this day trip with the best guide we have had by far , knowledgeable, smart , intellectual and fun.. made the tour to Armenia even better getting us indulged in talks and skip noticing The tough roads . Good lunch stop , kind driver and very responsive tour manager Baya .

It was a really good tour. Young Stalin (Giorgi) did a great job as a tour guide! We learnt a lot and everything was very uncomplicated. We can definitely recommend that tour! You will enjoy it – promise 🙂

Also the whole organization was fantastic. Baya, the product manager, texted me immediately after I booked for the details. A really professional company. Great!

I’ve done several tours with different companies and Gamarjoba Tours is the company in Tbilisi. They sent you a WhatsApp message once you book with them and you have easy access to communicate with them which I think is a brilliant idea. Lana and Giorgi are professional and they respond immediately with any questions and reminders.

My tour guide, Giorgi (very common name…), was great and provided so much information about Georgia and Armenia. Each stops he tells us a story and you can’t help but be captivated. The restaurant for lunch was tasty and next to the river. We just chat the entire ride there and back. Great way to have a taste of Armenia.

Great organized day tour to Armenia with very informative and enthusiastic guide Young Stalin (Giorgi). The tour was well organized and took us to monasteries and other interesting spots on the way. Armenia with its soviet era vibe was very fascinating and worth visiting even for such short time. It invokes a timeless feeling. Thank you for a great day!

Kudos to Gamarjoba Georgia Tours for a wonderful, well-organized trip to Lore region in Armenia. This is a great experience for us seeing among others 2 UNESCO heritage sites and knowing their history. George Tchelo explained to us in detailed what we need to know about the places we visited. There was no dull moment during the trip. Again, thank you so much George Tchelo for a great day! Will surely recommend this trip to my friends

If I could give 100+ stars to this tour and our tour guide, I would. What we experienced with Giorgi (known as the young Stalini) going to Armenia was beyond any type of expectation. I finally understood why it doesn’t really matter where you go around the world, but with whom you do it. We laughed a lot, talked about politics, history, cartoons, memes and stories, discovered amazing UNESCO heritage spots, felt the atmosphere of Armenia and moreover, had an unforgettable experience. I know for sure that this is and will remain the best tour of my life. Giorgi managed to make us feel at home in Georgia and Armenia. We enjoyed the food as well, in a restaurant by the river, full of kindness and nature. Armenia proved to be extremely special – great sights, weather, driver and all the knowledge discovered from our guide. At one point in the tour we could put a stone in a hole and make a wish – my wish was to be able to relive this tour over and over again. <3

I had a great and meaningful time in Armenia. I never realized how rich their historical heritage are until I came to visit the place.

Thanks to our guide Mr. George Tchelo who ensured that our trip is not only filled with great memories, but we were also filled with information about each place that we have been to. There is no dull moment with this man.

Thank you too to Gamarjoba Georgia Tours, your excellent customer and friendly service is something worth coming back again and again and again…

Highly recommend! Cheers Mr George Tchelo of Gamarjoba Georgia Tours

We loved “young Stalin” Giorgi. This is one of the few happy cases when the guide is better than the tour itself. That is not to say that the tour ain’t good. On the contrary – 2 UNESCO sites in Armenia and the unique Armenian culture and architecture are things really worth discovering. The country itself is a very interesting mix of ancient culture and more recent Soviet heritage. Yet it has a unique flavour that makes the trip worth-while.

Am rapidly becoming a regular on Gamarjoba tours given the incredible experiences I have had to date on all my previous tours with them and this one was no exception. This one got off to the perfect start when I discovered my tour guide for the day was George (aka Young Stalin), my tour guide from my first Gamarjoba tour a little over a month ago. I knew instantly I was in for a great day, and so it proved.

First stop after crossing the border was Akhtala Monastery, a Georgian style monastery with fantastically preserved frescoes. George stayed with us the whole time providing a detailed history of the monastery and the meaning behind the frescoes.

Second stop is Haghpat Monastery, an Armenian style monastery and the contrast with Akhtala is very apparent. Again George stayed with us throughout providing a comprehensive overview of the purpose of the various chambers and buildings within the monastery complex.

After a quick stop for lunch we proceeded to the Sanahin Monastery, with brief stops for photos at a 13th century bridge and the Mikoyan brothers museum where they have an original MIG 21 aircraft. George was again on hand during all these stops to provide the full history and answer any questions we might have.

Sanahin and Haghpat monasteries are both UNESCO heritage listed sites with Akhtala likely to join them in the not too distant future and it is easy to see why. All three are exquisite examples of the architecture of their time and have rich and vivid histories.

Having spent a few days in Armenia a month ago this tour is a great way to get a taste of what Armenia is like and is perfect if you are stretched on time.

Thanks again Gamarjoba for another great day out. Will hopefully be back soon to explore more of stunning Georgia with you.

Excellent day trip to North Armenia from Tbilisi with Gamarjoba Georgia at just £27.18 BEST PRICE online compared to all other operators.
I received immediate confirmation and details for pick up time and place through whattsapp(Baya-manager) which gave me peace of mind regarding the booking.
The day of the tour I was picked up from my accommodation and transferred to the Tour office where I was welcomed and checked in for my day trip and was offered coffee/tea and water for my tour.
Despite the fact that I was the only booked participant for the day trip to Armenia that day, the company did not try to rebook me on another day or cancel and refund me. I was deeply impressed by that and I am recommending this company because it guarantees the running of tours regardless minimum number of participants which as we all know unfortunately is not usually the case with tour operators around the world which most of the times require minimum amount of participants to run a tour.
This is a highly professional tour company organising the whole range of tours in Georgia and respect and value the visitors trying to give them the best possible experience on their tours.
The vehicle of the tour was a new Mercedes Van clean, warm and comfy driven by Mishka who delivered a safe and smooth drive throughout the day avoiding the numerous potholes of the armenian rural roads.
I was privileged to have as tour guides in my armenian daytrip Tornike(lead guide) and Gvantsa who were multilingual, highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic in tranferring their knowledge about the area and specific sites and monasteries we visited. Both highly educated and focusing in delivering an awesome tour making the trip enjoyable and interesting and looking after every little detail.
Apart from the three amazing Unesco Monasteries we had a quick stop in the Mig21 museum and various other places for pics.
My hosts offered me an excellent energy breakfast boost with hot coffee and local fresh cheese&bacon pie at the beginning of the daytrip that kept me going till the delicious traditional meal we had in Armenia(kebabs, bbq sliced potatoes and cheese highly recommended)
I had a fantastic daytrip and recommend it to all visitors in Georgia.
I would definitely book all my trips in Georgia with the same Company and certainly request Tornike, Gvantsa, Mishka and Baya as they are all excellent in what they are doing.
Thank you all for a great daytrip!!!!

My teenage son and I booked spontaneously tour from Tbilisi to Armenian monasteries. I was afraid about the weather (turned out to be pretty cool, additionaly we got to be the only tourists in all those amazing places) and also about the time spent in the car- in fact we had most fun on our way. Our guide, Tornike turn it to the best time of our trip. His attitude was extraordinary! He was not only able to share lots of interesting facts about the places we visited but also he was sociable and full of energy all day long. He was extremely open to our needs, stopped for photos whenever we felt like and even helped me find a post office in Armenia! Definitely recommend this way of sightseeing! We will come back and call you again for more Gamarjoba! Maybe by then TripAdvisor system will make it possible to give you more than 5☆☆☆☆☆!

This tour was such a delight, made so especially by my guide Tornike. With his friendly personality and enthusiasm for what he does, he helped us to appreciate the tour at a deeper level. The tour focused on Armenia, but we learned much about Georgian history too as we made our way. This tour is a great way to experience Armenia if all you have is a day. Just seeing Armenia is truly interesting in itself. To learn about its ancient monasteries, try the food/wine, and even see a Mig-21 was a memorable treat. Thanks to Tornike and our excellent driver Mischka, this tour was fantastic. Thank you!

This was our second tour with this company and while very different in content and tone to our first (Bojormi and Bakuriani) our experience was equally fantastic.

George and the trainee (also George) and the calm and professional driver (didn’t get him name all looked after us so well.

Both Georges studied journalism, speak multiple languages, are well travelled, well informed, have excellent senses of humour and great taste in music.

Armenia was really eye-opening – a mix of ancient history and post-Soviet recovery, dramatic countryside and unique church architecture. Everything we saw was put it full context by our brilliant and insightful guides.

We had a tasty lunch in a really nice riverside restaurant and loads of time to see everything at our leisure. Again, the highest possible rating for these fantastic, unforgettable tours. Highly recommended!

The trip through northern armenia was very eye opening and a must do to help better understand the history of the region. It was a unique experience to see how this part of armenia has remained the same since the soviets left. The monasteries visited on the trip were really unique and beautiful. I went on a Sunday and got to see an Armenian church service which was a unique experience. Even though I was the only one on the tour the tour guide George shared information, anecdotes, and local jokes the entire trip which helped make the bumpy road across armenia more bearable 🙂

We starded as a very small group guide by Giorgi, a very young ( 20!) but prepared and funny guide and we litterally fell in love with an almost unknown nation with hidden pearls of history as Armenia is… The passion of Giorgi and the caratteristics of the place makes the Armenia 1 day trip an experience you don’t wonna miss
Dont let yourself be impressed by the decaded soviet union’s athmosphere and enjoy the story this place has to offer. Highly reccomended

  52. Rated 5 out of 5

Unique places visited but it was mostly the churches and prehistoric Soviet union run places. The tour Guides were great and had a good knowledge of the place providing the differences between the Georgian and Armenian religious architecture of the churches. Also explaining the times of Soviet union while the place was under their control. The company provided was really great and good insights of the travel experience.

I had the pleasure of spending a day with George (awesome tour guide) and Mischa (equally awesome driver) driving out of Tbilisi and into the very different landscape that is northern Armenia. It was an amazing trip to see these extraordinarily old monasteries and fortresses juxtaposed with Soviet-era housing and semi-abandoned mining operations – both were fascinating to see for very different reasons. It was also Christmas season, and seeing the Christmas trees and decoration in places like Alaverdi was also fascinating.

George was an amazing tour guide. He taught me all about the different sites we visited along with the (relatively) new changes brought in by the Soviets in the twentieth century, and I learned a lot about the region’s long history. More than that, he was a lot of fun to talk to at lunch or while driving – just an all-around great guy. And he was very flexible with the schedule and went at the pace that I wanted to do, though it helped that I was the only one on the tour.

A word of warning: if you are prone to car or motion sickness, this may not be the tour for you – some of the roads are quite terrible. Otherwise, if you want to see something very different than the usual touristy stops, I definitely recommend this tour!

Since I was in Georgia, why not take the opportunity to have a sneak peak of its neighbor country? I couldn’t had made the most accurate choice, since, although they share a border, they couldn’t be more different. In everything! Moreover, this tour takes you to the past, Once you get into Armenia, it looks like time has stopped and you suddenly just entered in another dimension! The places visited, the monasteries, are such peaceful places, with an unexplainable peaceful and chanting atmosphere. Giorgi Meg was a wonderful guide, with lots of knowledge and a plus: a very good voice to sing!

What a wonderful day trip to Armenia! It will bring you back in time, experience a real life time machine! You will discover its past history and still experience at present. This tour takes you to the past, Once you get into Armenia, it looks like time has stopped and you suddenly just entered in another dimension! The places visited, the monasteries, are such peaceful places, with an unexplainable peaceful and chanting atmosphere. Akhtala, Haghpat and Sanahin monasteries are classified as a World Heritage Site were built in the 10th-13th centuries. They are a testament to Armenia’s rich and ancient spiritual history and are well worth a visit, well preserved, wonderful inside and outside.

We had the best tour to Armenia with Tornike and Sophie. Tornike was fun to be with, friendly and very informative. I can hardly imagine a better way to become familiar with Armenian heritage. Sophie was my contact person at Gamarjoba Georgia Tours. She was so kind, an amazing lovely young lady who make sure that we have the best tours to all our 5 booked tours in Gamarjoba Georgia Tours. The assistance was really excellent! and of course, to our driver (i forgot his name) who was great as well, drove safely. Myself and my good friend Fe had a good nap in between our trip.

We had lunch in a local family home. The food was delicious and lunch was a pleasant experience.

They made the whole experience very fun, enjoyable and informative. The monasteries were beautiful and glad that we got to see a glimpse of Armenia in our short time here.

Thank you so much guys and thank you Gamarjoba for having a great team!

It was AMAZING. I’ve found this tour to be a really enriching experience that I would definitely recommend to anyone, and I would like to thank Gamarjoba staff for allowing us to enjoy it. Particularly George, who was an excellent guide and super kind, and the driver, who handled the tricky Armenian roads perfectly.

We considered at the last minute during our stay in Tbilisi to go on a day trip to northern Armenia (we decided only one day prior). Our hotel recommended a tour which seemed overpriced so we did quick research on our own and found out about Gamarjoba Georgia Tours. We contacted Lana who clearly answered our questions and we booked with this company. The morning of departure, a company representative was at the meeting point at the time indicated and we were led to the tour office for registration and payment so all pre-tour steps went very smoothly.

During the tour our guide was Guga – some call him Google because of his deep knowledge of the local history. We have been on several tours recently in various parts of the world including tours to Granada (Nicaragua), to the Korean Demilitarized Zone between South Korea and North Korea, to Bali, and to Petra (Jordan). It is with this background in mind that we can say our guide Guga was the best guide we have come across recently. He was very friendly, spoke excellent English, and the way he presented information to his guests was interesting and entertaining, without being overbearing with information overflow either.

Given the attractive price we paid for this tour relative to other competing companies, and given how well the pre-tour steps were handled plus the quality of the guide, I can highly recommend this company.

This was my second tour with Guga Evgenidze (passionate guide) and Mikheil Meladze (fearless driver) of Gamarjoba Georgia Tours in Mikheil’s Toyota Prius, or what Guga called our “time machine”.

This part of Armenia is a bit of a throwback to the Soviet era, passing by old shuttered factories and Soviet cars, buses and trucks plying what little is left of the highway (which either gives you a massage or motion sickness depending on your view).

Each of the 3 major stops along this tour provided a glimpse into churches and fortresses that are centuries old and spectacular views across the dry mountains and valleys of northern Armenia.

Immigration control was pretty quick and simple (although it took our driver a little longer to convince authorities to allow him to return to Georgia) as was changing money at the grocery store when we entered Armenia.

This is an excellent way to experience another country while using beautiful Tbilisi as a home base.
